Summary: 5 stars for Phoebe, -1 for the movie itself...
Comment: Plot? Acting? Dialogue? Please. You're buying this movie for the same reason everyone else did... and for that alone, it gets 4 stars. The incredible Phoebe Cates is, indeed, both topless and fully nude several times, yet the nudity is actually done very tastefully. (And yes, not to be sexist, if you're a female fan of "Charles in Charge," you also get a glimpse of Willie's willie.) As for the alleged use of a body double, the shower and swimming scenes are 100% Phoebe (hi-def super slo-mo doesn't lie).
This ridiculous debate over whether this is a rip-off of "Blue Lagoon" (which, IMO it is) is a moot point. If you were one of the millions of young men whose minds were blown by Ms. Cates in "Fast Times," then hit the Buy button. If you actually want to watch a good movie, then look elsewhere, my friends. End of story.

Summary: movie fan in denver
Comment: This movie had all the real potential of being another "Blue Lagoon" but the execution is quite weak. It's a shame to gather all of the right stuff to do the film so poorly. While some of the scenery shots are really good the film quality is really grainy. The music soundtrack is interesting but comes off as herky/jerky (probably really bad recording equipment). The two main actors Aames and Cates have very good visual appeal but the film quality doesn't lend itself to quality viewing. Also, the entire acting crew should have had better coaching before attempting a full length feature film. Still the movie is fun and if you like movies like Blue Lagoon you'll probably like this one. Unfortunately the cinematrography and music don't match Blue Lagoon at all (hint, hint to the director and producer). Anyways just rent or buy this film for the fun and don't expect much more.

Summary: it is NOT Phoebe, BODY DOUBLE
Comment: Just to let all of the reviewers know who are going crazy over the beauty of Phoebe Cates, sorry but most of the time it is a body double! The two stars I gave this movie are for the few scenes that are actually her, namely the shower scene in the cave. The close-ups during love scenes and the swimming are indeed a body double, garunteed unless you can CLEARLY see her face, it is not her you are drooling over. You can look this info up in any book that talks about celebrity skin on film, such as the "Bare Facts" Guide to the movies. Sorry to dissapoint, but the movie is really stupid, and half of what makes it worth watching is just wool being pulled over your eyes. Once again, too bad.

Summary: It SHOULD Be ON DVD!!!
Comment: This movie has one of the best looking females EVER... Phoebe Cates in it! If that's not enough to make you want this film, your dead from the waist down! Ok, the movie is dorky and laughable at times, but you'll be too busy drooling at the skimpy costumes she wears, the naked waterfall scene! The naked underwater scenes! Enough said.. Own this film! And pray to God it finally get's released onto an American DVD release. There is a Japanese company doing a DVD release of this (She's real popular in Japan!) but it's a region 2 DVD so unless you have a region free player, your outta luck. Also, not sure of the quality either.

Summary: Unremarkable Story, Breathtaking Debut
Comment: Simply stated, this is a makeout movie. An attractive couple are brought together in a romantic setting in hopes of appealing to hormone-driven young people of both sexes. The problem is that Willie Aames is not attractive and charismatic enough (or a good enough actor for that matter)to make his target audience swoon. No such problem with Phoebe Cates. SHE IS GORGEOUS...RADIANT...ANGELIC!! The details of how these 2 got stranded, then escaped from the slave trader to get back to civilization are of secondary importance. Phoebe is the entire movie. Without her, this is an unremakable retread of "The Blue Lagoon". But just as she makes being stranded on a desert oasis not merely bearable, but highly desireable, so she raises this otherwise pedestrian effort to a true aesthetic experience. The stoyline gets 2 stars, but Phoebe gets 5 stars for the most breathtaking debut in movie history.P.S.--According to THE BARE FACTS a body double was used for the love scenes, but it is Phoebe everywhere else--including the underwater scenes.
